Sources
The “Sources” tool will help you to determine the number of transitions made from certain sources. To set up the counting got to the Sources section in the left-hand menu of Counter settings.
Sources counting can be defined in several ways:
1. By URL content.
2. By referrer content.
Example of use: you want to track the effectiveness of the campaign for placing ads on certain sites. In this case you can give to the advertising site the address of your page with a specific label and add this label to the list of substrings. This approach will allow you to determine how many new visitors you received from the campaign.
3. By domains and subdomains.
Example of use: you want to track the effectiveness of the campaign for placing ads on a specific partner site. In this case you can add the domain of the partner site to the list of domains. This approach will allow you to determine how many new visitors you received from the campaign.
4. By parameter in page URL.
Transitions from pages with domains (or their subdomains) listed in the source list are involved in determining the sources of new visitors. If automatic counting on the specified domains is enabled then the transitions from the specified domains will be counted separately from other sources. This will let you know how many new visitors (new visitor for a certain period is a visitor who came for the first time in this period) came from this source of attracting visitors.
If the address of the page from which the visitor came can be assigned to several domains, priority is given to a more accurate (longest) match. For example, if the transition was made from the page //top.mail.ru/Rating/, and the domains top.mail.ru and mail.ru were added, then the source of the transition would be the domain top.mail.ru.
Is is allowed to add up to 50 substrings. Changes take effect not immediately, but within 24 hours.
